Strat Description:

  • Guaranteed: Namath fulfills pledge in Super win over Baltimore
  • NFL and AFL: Future Hall of Famers Flooded Rosters in Two Leagues
  • All 26 Teams: SOM’s First Fully Carded Retro Season

Full Summary

For the first time, Strat-O-Matic is offering a complete classic pro football season card set in updated format – all 26 teams from both the National Football League. SOM has chosen the unforgettable 1968 season, made famous after New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath made good on his “guarantee” that the Jets from the AFL would beat the highly favored Baltimore Colts of the NFL.

It was the first public victory guarantee by the star of a prominent team. It was the AFL’s first Super Bowl victory after two one-sided defeats. It was only the second loss for the Colts, who went 13-1 in the regular season while scoring 402 points and allowing only 144.

Fans of Strat-O-Matic’s long sold-out six-team set from 1968 will remember the potent Jets (11-3), Colts, Dallas Cowboys (12-2), Cleveland Browns (10-4) Oakland Raiders (12-2) and Kansas City Chiefs (12-2). Now all Strat fans get to relive the star performances of Cleveland RB Leroy Kelly (NFL-best 1,239 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns), Baltimore QB Earl Morrall’s deep passing (NFL-best 16.2 yards per completion and 28 TDs) and Dallas’ Doomsday Defense and its star return men, Preston Pearson (2 kickoff return TDs) and Bob Hayes (2 punt return TDs). They will relive AFL MVP Namath throwing to explosive WRs Don Maynard and George Sauer, Oakland’s “mad-bomber” QB Daryle Lamonica and the nearly unstoppable Kansas City offense led by QB Len Dawson (AFL-best 98.6 passer rating).

Now, gamers will be able to see the star-quality on the other 20 teams, including Chicago all-time great RB Gayle Sayers, who averaged 6.2 yards/carry, Green Bay QB Bart Starr (104.3 passer rating and 63.7% completions), San Francisco QB John Brodie (NFL-best 3,020 yards passing), San Diego QB John Hadl (AFL-best 3,473 passing yards and 27 TDs) and his star receiver, WR Lance Alworth (AFL-best 68 catches and 1,312 yards), Cincinnati RB Paul Robinson (the AFL’s only 1,000-yard rusher) and many more. You will get to coach contenders like the Los Angeles Rams (10-3-1), Louis Cardinals (9-4-1) and the San Diego Chargers (9-5).
