Hitters performed with more than 5,000 HR. But young pitching stole the show. Florida’s Josh Beckett shut out the Yankees in the final game of the World Series. Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were 1-2 in NL strikeouts and nearly got the Cubs into the Series for the first time since ’45. LA’s Eric Gagne had a record 55 saves and a 1.20 ERA while fanning far more (137 in 82 IP) than he let get on (57).
