- Gretzky leads Edmonton to 426 goals, but not the Cup
- Montreal rookies Roy, Lemieux lead Stanley Cup victory over Calgary

A fluke goal sent 89-point Calgary into the Stanley Cup finals instead of season-long super-team Edmonton, which ruled with 119 points and 426 goals. Wayne Gretzky shattered all records with 163 assists and 215 points and Oiler teammate Paul Coffey scored 48 goals to top Bobby Orr’s record of 46 for defensemen. Oiler RW Jari Kurri led the NHL with 68 goals.
