- Mile High: Broncos give Peyton Manning Super sendoff
- Offensive Play: Most TDs, most QBs (11) with 30 TD passes
- 15-1: MVP Newton, Carolina nearly perfect
In a year marked by sterling quarterback play and a record number of touchdowns, Peyton Manning struggled to his least-effective season as a starter, yet ended his Hall of Fame career as a Super Bowl winner thanks to Denver’s brilliant defense. The Broncos’ dominated the offense of 15-1 Carolina, which won its first 14 games behind MVP Cam Newton, who produced almost 4,500 yards and 45 touchdowns in the regular season.
Rookies Jameis Winston (4,202 yds passing) and Marcus Mariota (62.2% completions) and young Blake Bortles (35 TD passes) and Derek Carr (32) added to the NFL’s quarterback depth, while veterans Drew Brees and Eli Manning combined for a record 13 TD passes in one game as New Orleans and the Giants combined for more than 1,000 yards … WRs Antonio Brown (136 rec-1834 yds-10 TDs), Julio Jones (136-1871-8), DeAndre Hopkins (111-1521-11) and Brandon Marshall (109-1502-14) caught everything all season and New England TE Rob Gronkowski (72-1176-11) was unstoppable.
This remarkable NFL season signed off with the retirements of the very remarkable Manning, Calvin Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, Charles Woodson, Jared Allen, Jerrod Mayo, Justin Tuck and Heath Miller, among others.
