This season IS currently available for purchase from Strat-O-Matic: 1954 Baseball Cards
Strat’s Description:
- Embarrasing! Indians win AL-record 111, then get swept in Series
- Brilliant! Willie Mays’ triumphant return
- Ironic! Yanks win 103 (most in decade), still miss post-season
Army strong: Mays returned from the military to hit .345-41-110 and make the most sensational World Series catch ever as the Giants stunned the Indians. Cleveland had the batting champ (Bobby Avila, .341), HR/RBI champ (Larry Doby, 32, 126) and two 23-game winners, Bob Lemon and Early Wynn. Way good enough to whip the Yankees, who won every other AL pennant from 1949-58.
